Reducing embodied carbon is one of the greatest challenges faced by our industry. At around 9% of New Zealand's carbon emissions, it's also the second largest source of emissions in the built environment.
Embodied carbon covers emissions generated during a building's entire lifecycle from raw materials extraction right through to demolition and disposal. The term refers to the emissions embodied in both the building materials and the processes required to create and demolish buildings.
To achieve New Zealand's net zero emissions target by 2050, we must tackle the challenge of measuring and managing embodied emissions in buildings.
The New Zealand Green Building Council has worked across the sector of the past year to develop a consistent method for measuring embodied emissions. The outcome is an approach toe measurement that allows for consistent, comparable and reliable benchmarking.
Following a successful kick off in early May, we're now ready to respond to demand for masterclasses in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Join our delivery partners thinkstep-anz and Mott Macdonald for this hands-on session providing an overview of the approach and a walk through of the methodology and calculators for embodied carbon and lifecycle impacts.
